TEN MINUTES OR LESS: Q&A with Giants lefty Mike Kickham

Major league debuts can be arduous, grueling tasks — especially for starting pitchers. You could throw seven shutout innings and get sent down the next day if that was the original plan. You could be pitching for your spot in the rotation, and give up a six-spot in the second. Just like that, you’re back in Triple-A.

May 29, 2013 was that day for San Francisco Giants No.12 prospect Mike Kickham, who was recalled from Triple-A Fresno the day before to pitch against the Athletics in place of the recently injured Ryan Vogelsong.

But things didn’t go as planned for the Missouri native: four earned runs on four hits and three walks in just 2.1 innings. He took the loss and was optioned to Fresno the next day.

Now in need of another spot-start to fill an injury-induced void, the Giants will call on Kickham for a second time. He was my guest last Tuesday on this week’s edition of “Ten Minutes or Less.”
